[D25 EA]Iaido: Michio vs Kazusa

A series of tatami floored rooms ring the dojo. At any given time, wooden and bamboo practice swords can be heard clacking or the sensei lecturing students. Peculiarly enough, compared to most dojo, these sensei speak with more questions than orders. Here, one corner of the ground floor has been reserved for guests to practice their own martial arts. At the center, a larger tatami floor spreads against a short conclave of bleachers. The east wall is occupied by a trio of shrines to Mirumoto, Shinsei and Togashi. A single stone at the base marks the grave of Mirumoto Hojatsu. Akin to the shrine in the village, a banner hangs with the words "Neither Will I."

[D25 EA]Iaido: Michio vs Kazusa

Postby Soshi Kazusa » Tue Mar 07, 2017 10:11 pm

When it came their turn, the Soshi stepped to the dueling ring and waited for Michio.

She bowed. "Let us show everyone how this is done, Shiba-san", she said. She knew the man's focus was intense, he was a stark example of his dojo and she did not expect anything less than being struck before she could properly find the grip of her blade.

Kazusa took her stance, not the leaned forward and aggressive one from her duels with Karasu, but a more centered and solid stance. One that spoke of a warrior with a precious burden to carry. She watched the Shiba carefully, studied his technique, his spirit, and intent. It took a short moment, but she realized that he was too internally focused, his aura did not reach hers.

The very definition of the moment.

Quicker than the eye can see, more subtle than could be noted, Kazusa advanced.

Michio's response was nearly focused enough. Nearly. The deflecting draw, twisting to a strike nearly fast enough. Nearly, but not quite. He checked the cut, going from full speed to completely still as the chisel-tip of the Soshi's katana touched his right wrist. A mistake on either's part would have cut the tendons, stripped him of his swordsmanship.

Neither moved for a moment.

Michio returned his katana to its saya and bowed low, a small trickle of blood staining his knuckles red.

Kazusa held her blade out, for one of the officiants to offer a pure white cloth to clean her sword, then water to purify it. She sheathed the blade after and bowed low to Michio.

"You honor me with your technique, Shiba-san", she said earnestly. "I am fortunate to have been given this chance."
